The Liberal Democrats want to get a fair deal from Europe for the West Country and Gibraltar. Led by Graham Watson MEP the Liberal Democrats are Europe's 'critical friend'. Liberal Democrats are best placed to tackle cross-border issues like climate change and crime.
June 4th 2009 will be polling day for the next European Elections. The more people who support the Liberal Democrats - the more we can do to get a fair deal for the West Country and Gibraltar.
The six Liberal Democrat candidates for the South west region are:
Kay Barnard is a Somerset farmer. She wants to join Graham and work to reform the Common Agricultural Policy. She looks set to be the only farmer on the ticket of a major party in the region. Let's send a farmer to Brussels!
Our constituency includes Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and the former Avon county. It also includes Gibraltar.

A local Euro-MP has called upon small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the South West to "look to Europe" for prosperity after a recently published report showed a positive link between exports and SME performance.

The European Parliament has backed a report by a UK Lib Dem MEP that calls for reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) to make it fairer, greener and more sustainable.

MEPs have taken an axe to the illegal logging trade today by banning the placing of illegal timber on the European market and setting up strict penalties for those caught doing so.

MEPs today backed moves to crack-down on bankers' bonuses that encourage risky financial decisions and led to the recent financial meltdown. Banks were also told to hold reserves to guard against risky investments so they are not forced to fall back onto the taxpayer.

Boat passengers will have more rights as of 2012, after the European Parliament today approved new rules on the assistance and compensation an operator must provide in the event of delays or cancellations. Disabled passengers also secure the right to free assistance.
