Liberal Democrat farmer Kay Barnard - who is a European candidate for the South West of England & Gibraltar - paid a visit to the award-winning Home Farm at Farrington Gurney on Tuesday 12 May.

Kay - who is second on the party's list of candidates for the 4 June elections - was joined by prospective Parliamentary candidate for North East Somerset Gail Coleshill for a tour of the farm and its facilities.

The 400-acre farm is run by Andy & Tish Jeffrey and employs 50 staff, mainly offering dairy products and organic vegetables.

Kay Barnard said:

"This is a wonderful example of a sustainable local food business. The Jeffreys' customers come from nearby, cutting down food miles. Mr Jeffrey raised the issue of the lack of clarity of the labelling of food sold in Britain, but coming from elsewhere. This is certainly something that needs clarification and I would support reform of the current EU regulations."
