Kay's Biography2nd on the party list
Kay is a director of a commercial farm in Somerset which is a beacon site for its environmental work on a large wetland site near the Severn Estuary. She is also a director of a publishing and media company. Kay has a doctorate degree in Biochemistry, and led frontline research at MIT in Massachusetts and at Bristol University. Her work in the field of structural tissues (including collagen) was the basis for medical research important for chronic diseases such as arthritis and diabetes. She was awarded a personal Fellowship by the National Kidney Research Fund. A Somerset County Councillor for a number of years, she has advised the party about policy on genetic modification and animal welfare. She also served on the Board of an NHS Primary Care Trust, and on the University of Bristol Governing Council for many years. She still serves on the University's Personnel and Staff Development committee. Kay is interested in Third World development, particularly agriculture and food production in Africa. She is married, and has a son and a daughter. She is now second on the Liberal Democrat list for the European elections in the South West in 2009.
