Liberal Democrats: Taking on Criminals

Fighting Crime, Protecting Liberty. We feel that we must work together as an EU, to stop criminals simply fleeing across the channel to avoid being caught. The Conservatives disagree though, which means the Liberal Democrats will continue to fight to protect the European Arrest Warrant, which is a policy that has seen over a thousand criminals brought to justice. This is a policy that has allowed British courts to successfully request the extradition of 21/7 suicide bomber Hussain Osman, and many British Crime bosses hiding from justice in Spain. This allows suspects to be brought to trial and, if found guilty, to justice, much sooner than has ever been possible before. Yet the Conservatives oppose the policy.

We also fight to protect Civil Liberties and Human Rights, fighting for greater support of victims of modern-day slavery who are illegally trafficked to Britain. This is a battle against criminals that will become much harder to win if we are isolated from Europe by the Conservatives/UKIP. This isolation would also make it harder to crack down on Paedophile rings who use the internet to work across borders; harder to crack down on drug smuggling; harder for British citizens to get legal support when travelling in Europe on holiday or business. The Liberal Democrats will work with Europe to find solutions to all these problems, because we believe when criminals co-operate with each other across international borders, Governments must as well.
