Liberal Democrats: Working for Families

European trade and open borders help keep prices down as low as possible. If the UK were isolated from Europe by UKIP/the Conservatives we would see a huge drop in this trade or be forced to agree to trade regulations we have no say in setting, or most likely both. This would be bound to force up prices of every day goods and increase basic living costs. Living abroad would be harder without close European cooperation, and even going on holiday would become both harder and more expensive. The Liberal Democrats promise to:

  • Keep Borders Open: Keeping trade in Europe going, and allowing Britain increasing access to the largest single market in the world.

  • Bring a Fair Deal for Shoppers and Holidaymakers: Opening European markets and forcing down costs of everything from medicine to mobile phone bills, meat and machinery. The Liberal Democrats, fully supported by Graham Watson, stood up for millions of British travellers by slashing roaming charges, blacklisting unsafe airlines and introducing flight delay refunds. We will continue for more measures like this.

  • Put Money in People's Pockets with Big, Permanent Tax Cuts: By closing loopholes that allow the super rich to dodge taxes in overseas "Tax Havens" we could cut taxes for ordinary people, without having to cut spending, by making it up with fair taxation for big business and the wealthy.
