The Liberal Democrats are the only major party with a farmer on its list for the election, and we only need to build a little on our performance at the last euro election to see Kay Barnard elected. We believe this would put us in the best position to represent the huge number of farmers across our rural constituency.

We have already fought for reform of the Common Agricultural Policy, pressing for a more fair, efficient and green policy and West Country farmer Kay Barnard will work with other Lib Dem MEPs to continue to fight for reform. We believe the CAP should be replaced with a new policy that focuses on the sustainable development of the countryside. This would help tackle climate change, protect water purity and supplies and help rural communities, including a robust farming sector that would finally get a fair deal from big food companies.
